The Simple Guide to Buying a Boat

We are here to assist you in finding the right boat for your needs. If you’re a first time buyer the whole experience can be a little daunting, our experienced sale staff are here to help.

Where ever you may be looking to boat always check berth availability and the crafts dimensions before you start your search.

For a cruiser on the Great Ouse these dimensions are appropriate: No wider than 10’6 with a draft of 3 ft and an air draught of 8ft

The simple questions you should ask yourself:

  • Where do you want to boat?
  • Is it a day boat, or for weekends or for longer periods?
  • How many people would be using it at any one time?
  • How many berths do you require & do they have to have separate cabins
  • Do you want a modern or traditional cruiser?
  • A rough idea of your budget.

With the answers to these questions we can assist you. Email us with your requirements

There are many boat search websites which you can use to get an idea of what the types of craft available and it will give you an idea of their values, some of the best websites include: Boatshop 24  , Apollo Duck, Yacht Market

Also look at the availability on local marina's websites as they don’t all use the boat search websites to advertise.

Annual Cost for my boat
The main costs you will have to factor in are the mooring fees, license &  insurance. Also consider the cost of maintaining a boat and this will vary depending on the size and age of a craft and the general condition, and how much maintenance you plan to do yourself. We will happily go over estimated annual cost with you.

Procedure of Purchase
Once an offer has been excepted we ask for a 10% deposit.

River Trials
We will demonstration the crafts manoeuvrability, and enable you to get first hand experience of the handling.

Inspection & Survey
We can arrange discounted lifting costs for the purpose of hull inspection and surveys when buying a boat. We also recommend a survey and it is important to be aware that many insurance companies require one for craft over 15 years old.
